Winter is a great time for birding along the Potomac River and Sycamore Island. This area hosts a terrific mix of winter residents such as Pileated and Hairy Woodpeckers, Bald Eagles, Nuthatches,
and Carolina Wrens. The river in the vicinity of the Island also draws a variety of visiting waterfowl, including Red-head Ducks, Buffleheads, Grebes, and Merganzers.
Our outing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the clubhouse. We will walk the Island and along the towpath. Then back at 11:30 for coffee, pastries, and an accounting of the morning's sightings.
Paul Hagen, an accomplished birder and member of the club, is leading the walk. Members, those on the waiting list, and their friends are welcome.
For more information and to sign up, call Paul at (202) 789-6022 or by e-mail at phagen@bdlaw.com.
