Water Level at Little Falls: 3.1     Water Temperature: 82

Its a rare morning in August when the air is warmer than the water. There was a thick mist on the river this morning, the water was 82 degrees and the air was below 70.

I think we needed the rain but it sure has muddied up the river. Not many people are going to want to swim today.

The muddy water ruins the fishing as well. I was up at 5:00 this morning to go fishing up-river at Penefeild Lock but the trip was called off. The fishing is no good, I guess, if the fish can't see the lure. More rain is expected so it might be a slow day on the Island.

The river shot up a foot yesterday and looks pretty trashy right now.

As trashy as the river is, it doesn't look near as bad as the canal. Since they have stopped the water flow, the canal just gets worse and worse. Chick weed and algae have flourished in the stagnant water and it is a bright green color. It's no wonder why the mosquitos are so bad this year.

I've been busy working in the screen porch. After removing all the left over construction supplies and trash I finally rehung all the life jackets. I even got started laying the bricks for the floor.

Water Level at Little Falls: 2.94     Water Temperature: 83

I extended the cables on the swim float today. The river was getting so low that I was afraid the ladder might start getting stuck in the mud of the river bed. I pushed the float out so that the ramp was at the rivers edge and as I did a large water snake swam out from under the dock. I'm not sure I like the idea of a big snake calling our swim dock home.
